Please do not be heart broken for US. 1 in 3 people are “S” trauma survivors. Survivor being the untitle word. I’ve spoke about MY pain … now it’s my mom’s turn. And I can tell you she’s feeling self expressed and un burdened.

All alchemy over here.

P.s. now you see where I get my (speaking and singing) voice from.

Yes. We do, India. Thank you for sharing your mom's story with us. I don't know if she would want to but it would be nice to hear her sing on a tour with you whenever you decide to have one again. ❤️

When I saw you many years ago in concert, opening for Sade at MSG, your mom sang with you. You are both beautiful singers.

I've also seen you at Lincoln Ctr a few years back. You are beautiful inside and out.

I'm sure this truth-telling statement is cathartic for her at some level.

Take care. Peace ✌🏾

I’ve always heard the pain in your music. But I heard the journey of healing too. Strength, Courage, and Wisdom, indeed. I’ve survived. Faced one of my abusers and he laughed at my pain…and no one has the power to hurt you like your kin. My work, my art has been my therapy, the reclaiming of my power, the hope to inspire power in others, and nothing can take THAT away. I’m sending love to you and your mother, and I pray that your healing continues to be the light that comes from the dark for you, and for many. 💜💜💜

We are so proud of you Queen. But its hard not to be heartbroken for the little girl that you were. The mom that your mother was. I just hate it. But your healing is as beautiful as your voice and hearing about how far you've came is like music to my ears. Love and light, always 🙏🏿

This song has been crucial for me in my healing journey. I started listening to it in middle school after I experienced ’S’ trauma by my mom’s boyfriend, and I couldn’t grasp fully why it resonated so deeply. But this year I found myself playing it on repeat at 33 years old as I finally got to open up and share my story that I kept inside since I was 9 years old. Thank you for sharing your heart, thank you for your strength, courage, and wisdom, and most importantly thank you for choosing to create music that heals the soul! I love you!

India & mom I am so so sorry 😞 I know you said not to be, but I can’t help it, my heart is broken. I can’t imagine how difficult it has been to hold this in for decades.

“Get it together” is one of my top 5 India Arie songs (and that’s saying a lot trust me!), and I was always curious what you meant about that line… I never thought the “kin” referenced was so close to home.

India & mom - I’m praying for your continued healing from this horrific trauma.

People are supposed to feel something about this. We care for the young child who experienced this not the grown woman who has healed herself

you are absolutely right. Children should be protected at all costs. I too hurt for the girl that I was. And I have had to carry some big pain. One thing I do not carry guilt. That belongs with the perpetrators feet. And I am very proud of my mother for speaking up today. There’s something very very healing. Your mom stands up for you.

Wow. What a release and place to Grant permission for others. It’s time that the veil be taken off of the lies, the pain and the illusions. I’m glad you’ve found your liberation here; such a tough space to reveal. I pray that all of those around me can find their voice and express their abuses and pains that otherwise would weigh them down. I’m praying for all of those not sure how to find their voice and for those of us looking for a safe place to land find a way to foster healthy dialogues to center our choices. I applaud your bravery and I stand with you in your honesty

Discussions about family trauma is the only way to heal the pain and for some provide a voice that has been silenced. My mom endured early abuse and protected me from it but loved with this reality and I never knew the impact of being sheltered then later exposed. Abuse is never right. I have cousins that have suffered autoimmune diseases and fought legally and otherwise with family on the biological dad’s side while protected by a step dad but because they bore biological dad’s name were then also targeted for further abuse. Wrong is wrong and should not be carried down for children to reconcile who were unaware or innocent if these wrongs. Life and politics have born some into a cycle of biological revenge. I know this is unrelated but it needs to be noted that sexual crimes can be and are often used as strife interactions or even ear tactics taking away a societal prize of ownership to be won by proper courting. Victims are left to bear the brunt of this senseless interaction. The cycle of displaced emotion and aggression can continue unless confronted as it is and made not to scar another with the pain, the stigma, the secrecy or shame

This song has been everything for me in my teens. Got me through some really dark moments, having to live with my step father who was also my abuser, and my mother knew but chose to ignore it. That’s the song that made me feel heard 🤍 thank you India
